Spent about three hours across four sessions. I fussed a lot, finding it hard to get back into the groove. I could perfect the details, especially the rough neckerchief or whatever it is, but the source photo is old, low-resolution and grainy, and propping my big sketchbook up on the board in my lap has been awkward. Single sheet with binder clip is much better.
I did it on the back side of another drawing, so inside the book it will stay. It’s really just a practice piece to see if I could capture the eyes. Time to move on.
(edit - OK I’ve gone and smoothed it out but I’m not taking another photo)
Progress Shot
In the past I would take 4-8 of these and then line them up in a grid to watch and share the evolution, but again just a practice piece that had been sitting around a while. I got it done today so I can move on to more serious stuff.
I’m surprised she looked so sad and droopy earlier on. I wasn’t really conscious of it at the time. Maybe I felt sad and droopy too.
Tools used: a smattering. This was a disorganized project. Pencils: started with 4H, then mostly B, 2B, 4B. Bit of tissue, bit of smudge stick, bit of normal eraser, bit of sticky-tack, bit of whatever was closest to my hand when I reached for the desk.
